Apex Legends is a battle royale meets hero shooter with plenty to distinguish it from the many other FPS battle royale games currently on the market. While most shooters have a strong focus on the weapons themselves and a skill preference that leans towards gunplay, Apex Legends finds itself in a three way balance between gunplay, movement, and abilities. While some of the weapons in Apex Legends are generally better or worse than others from season to season, it is generally best to pick up guns that fit your playstyle and your legend.
In your average game of Apex you’ll see all sorts of loadouts being used by different players. The players that know how to use their legend’s abilities, positioning, and guns in unison tend to be the players that come out on top. Planning your loadout based on your legend and your squadmates will provide the most synergy, and set you up for a win.
Specific weapons will change in power season to season, but finding a loadout that tailors to your abilities is the best recipe for success. Certain gun loadouts naturally complement each other and will continue to find success from season to season.
The go to weapon loadout for aggressive players in Apex Legends has been a combination of a mid-range SMG like a Volt or a CAR and the Peacekeeper or Mastiff Shotgun. This loadout is best for legends who like to quickly enter the fray, like Mad Maggie or Revenant. There are quite a few benefits to this loadout that have top players coming back to it season after season. Here are just a few:
The most versatile all-around loadout for legends without a reliable entry is a combination of an assault rifle or LMG and an SMG. In this loadout, the assault rifle or LMG provides the range and accuracy you need to take medium range fights, while the SMG can defend against aggressive pushes from an enemy squad or enable your own.
This loadout provides the most balance between range at distance and time to kill, so it will work well on most legends and most playstyles. Just make sure that if you’re running something like a Rampart or Maggie that you switch up your AR/SMG for an LMG or a shotgun to fit their passives.
The best loadout for most support legends will be a sniper rifle or marksman rifle with, once again, an SMG. This may change a little with a legend like Gibraltar who likes to be a frontline protector with his dome shield, but most supports will like to at least start the fight with a strong backline position.
The sniper rifle/DMR will give you enough range to start fights on your own terms, and allow you to stay in a safe position while your Octane runs straight into the fight. The SMG will allow you to enter the fight later on if you need to revive a downed teammate as a Newcastle, or provide shields as a Conduit.
Every loadout takes practice though, so if these seem up your alley be sure to test out these loadouts the next time you have the chance in your Apex Legends ranked match. Your teammates might just thank you for it.
Remember that every season brings change to Apex, so try out new weapon combos that play to your strengths and play style as a player. Just because a specific gun loadout works for your friends and other players doesn’t mean it will work for you. Try different guns out and focus on your positioning and ability usage to ensure you’re playing Apex to the best of your ability and you’ll be surprised how the wins start to pile up.
