The Outer Worlds Game Guide

The Outer Worlds Game Guide

Obsidian's latest open world role-playing game (RPG), The Outer Worlds, just released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 25th, 2019.

Reminiscent of Fallout: New Vegas in style, it’s a new take on the classic style of RPG.

Launched into the Solar System (Halcyon) forge your own path whether you want to be a lawful good citizen and abide by the corporations running society or a chaotic evil villain who takes out anyone in their path, the choice is all yours.

How To Improve Your Gameplay Using a SCUF

Thumbsticks

You get to choose how you want to play in The Outer Worlds: whether you want to be a stealthy thief, an aggressive outlaw, or a pacifist savior.

SCUF thumbsticks are designed to be interchangeable to match whatever playstyle you prefer.

  • Concave Thumbsticks are designed for more control over movement.

  • Domed Thumbsticks are designed for more accuracy.

  • Short Thumbsticks are designed for quicker movement speed.

  • Tall Thumbsticks are designed to have more angle to play with and more precise aiming.

For defensive players who prefer to sneak around, we recommend playing with a short concave thumbstick on the left, and a tall domed thumbstick on the right for quick but controlled movement and accurate aim.

For offensive players who to run in and cause a commotion, we recommend playing with a short concave thumbstick on the left, and a short domed thumbstick on the right for quick, controlled movement and aim.

Trigger Control System

Combat can be surprisingly tough. Gain the advantage against your enemies with SCUF’s Trigger Control System; available on every controller model and offers full trigger customization through Adjustable Trigger Stops and Hair Triggers.

For The Outer Worlds, you will want to have your trigger stops enabled.

They will reduce the amount your trigger has to travel past the activation point and will allow for faster shooting and aiming, especially efficient with semi-automatic weapons.

To further tune your trigger movement, the hair triggers will allow you to modify the distance to the activation point so firing and aiming becomes a one-tap process.

You should only adjust your hair triggers in game; start by turning the key until you hit the activation point which is where your weapon will start shooting on its own, then dial it back 2 turns, or to your preference.

Paddles

Paddles located on the back of every SCUF controller will help cover your essentials of crouching, jumping, interacting, reloading and switching weapons while being prepared with your thumb on the thumbstick for whatever is waiting out there for you.

The Outer Worlds Gameplay Tips

Here’s a several tips that can vastly improve different parts of gameplay.

  • Advancing Lockpicking early on is a life saver. Once you hit level 20, you will no longer need to use Mag-Pics for low level locks, so you can save them for harder ones.

  • Same goes for advancing Science; this helps you improve armor and weapons at workbenches using the Tinker feature.

  • In addition, advancing Persuasion and Lying can also be extremely beneficial when trying to influence a conversation the way you’d like it to go.

  • For those of you who like having a companion around, leveling up Leadership to 20 will give you access to their abilities.

  • Exploration will be very rewarding; it’s fun, and lots of places have lots of loot hidden about.

  • Tactical Time Dilation is really beneficial at the start of a fight to disable someone or to finish off an enemy at the end.

  • For you thief-style players, stealing has no consequences so long as you aren’t seen, so watch those awareness indicators.

  • Most quests in the game are reputation based, so keep this in mind when making decisions that could affect whether or not you’re on a faction’s good side.

  • Store items in the bedroom on your ship to lighten your load, since there’s a lot of loot and never enough carrying space.

  • Flaws are permanent, so be careful if you decide to select one in exchange for a perk point.

  • Go into Settings > UI > Deselect “See Base Item Stats” so you can see the best choice of weapon for you based on your stats and attributes.
