Getting Started in Apex Legends with SCUF Basics

Getting Started in Apex Legends with SCUF Basics

Apex Legends recently released Season 8 for PS4 and PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X and S, and PC.

In this 3 part guide, we’ll be starting with the basics, then move onto improving your aim, and finishing with expert settings. Keep in mind that the SCUF Infinity4PSPro and SCUF IMPACT are only compatible with the PS4 editions of Apex Legends. For more information on compatibility, check here.

Let’s get started on how to become better in Apex Legends.

Learning the Advantage of Paddles

At a baseline, Paddles give you a huge advantage than without. You can keep your thumb on the thumbstick to aim while using other key functions like jumping, crouching, sliding, swapping weapons, etc. Paddles and Apex Legends are perfect for each tother.

If you’re used to playing without Paddles, you may find them a little strange at first. With practice, you’ll see why Paddles make a difference when you play; you may even find you don’t want to use the face buttons anymore.

Using Two Paddles

Starting with two paddles. By default, the farthest left paddle  is mapped to Jump (X on PS4, A on Xbox) and the farthest right paddle is mapped to Slide (O on PS4, B on Xbox).

Having quick and easy access to Crouch/Slide and Jump will keep up with your pace of quickly traversing the map running and sliding, ducking into cover, and climbing.

Practice using only the paddles for these functions and ignore their face buttons during gameplay. It will take a little while to get used to, but keep practicing and you will develop muscle memory.

Mastering these two paddles will make your movement more fluid and efficient, your inventory management faster, all while being ready to fire at your opponents.

Using Four Paddles

Next up are the inner two paddles. By default, the inner left paddle is mapped to Reload/Interact (Square on PS4, X on Xbox) and the inner right paddle is mapped to Next Weapon/Harvest Weapon (Triangle on PS4, Y on Xbox).

Repeat the same process as before, but now incorporating one of the inner two paddles. Ignore their face buttons until you’re comfortable with using all the paddles instead of the face buttons. With consistent practice, it can take up to two weeks to be completely used to them.

Conquering all four paddles will allow you to perform many more actions than before and master the complex mechanics of the game.

Step Three: Configuring the Paddles

Now that you’ve mastered the paddles, let’s start remapping. Pplace the EMR key at the back of the controller and then press and hold the button you want to map to your paddle.

When finished, remove the EMR key and you’re ready to go.

Whether you’re an aggressive player who cycles through weapons quickly during fights or a strategic player who maps out their route to escape the ring, you can tailor your SCUF to your playstyle.
