Getting Started in Apex Legends with SCUF Basics

The biggest advantage you can gain in Apex Legends is the ability to keep your thumb on the thumbsticks while using essential functions like jumping and reloading.

We’ll be going over the most important feature of a SCUF controller: The Paddle Control System. Each SCUF controller has at least 2 paddles and up to 4 paddles total.

Step One: The Outer Paddles

Starting with two paddles. By default, the farthest left paddle  is mapped to Jump (X on PS4, A on Xbox) and the farthest right paddle is mapped to Slide (O on PS4, B on Xbox).

Practice using only the paddles for these functions and ignore their face buttons during gameplay. It will take a little while to get used to, but keep practicing and you will develop muscle memory.

Mastering these two paddles will make your movement more fluid and efficient, your inventory management faster, all while being ready to fire at your opponents.

Step Two: The Inner Paddles

Next up are the inner two paddles. By default, the inner left paddle is mapped to Reload/Interact (Square on PS4, X on Xbox) and the inner right paddle is mapped to Next Weapon/Harvest Weapon (Triangle on PS4, Y on Xbox).

Repeat the same process as before, but now incorporating one of the inner two paddles. Ignore their face buttons until you’re comfortable with using all the paddles instead of the face buttons. With consistent practice, it can take up to two weeks to be completely used to them.

Conquering all four paddles will allow you to perform many more actions than before and master the complex mechanics of the game.

Step Three: Configuring the Paddles

Now that you’ve mastered the paddles, let’s start remapping. Depending on your controller model, you will either need to use an EMR key (or slide the remapping switch on if you’re a SCUF Vantage owner). Press and hold the button you want to map to your paddle or sax button.

When finished, remove the EMR key (or flip the remap switch back into play mode on SCUF Vantage) and you’re ready to go.

Whether you’re an aggressive player who cycles through weapons quickly during fights or a strategic player who maps out their route to escape the ring, you can tailor your SCUF to your playstyle.
