F1 2020 Game Guide

F1 2020 Game Guide

Codemasters has released a new edition for the F1 series, F1 2020, for PS4, Xbox, Stadia, and PC. Each year, the AI gets better and better bringing you closer to the real track.

If you’re new to the series, you may find some of the game settings a little overwhelming. We have some tips to get you started and improve how you play.

F1 2020 Game Tips

Race Style

A new setting added in F1 2020 is the ability to select what race style you want to play: Casual Style or Standard Style.

Casual Mode is especially great if you’re just starting out. If you drive off the track, the surfaces are easier to drive over and get yourself back on the track. It also will reset your car to the circuit if you find yourself way off the track.

In Standard Mode the surfaces will become more realistic and challenging as you would expect.

Free Practice

Use Free Practice to learn new tracks and to get used to them. Free Practice also has challenges you can select from to practice, the most useful being the Track Acclimatisation program.

It will guide you through the layout, DRS zones, best braking points, and the racing line. You’ll see gates that show up and they will light up green if you pass through them or purple if you do so perfectly.

Driver Level

The AI Driver Level is how difficult your opposing racers will be, and each game released improves this. You can adjust this to suit your skill level. Starting out, you should begin at a lower setting; if you find it is too easy, then begin to increase it to where you feel comfortable or have a bit of a challenge.

Flashbacks

The F1 series has a cool feature allowing you to go back in time to a specific spot; this is useful if you made a mistake and want to correct it. Keep in mind that you should use in moderation to learn what you did wrong and how to improve.

Assists

F1 2020 has a lot of assists options which most are turned on when you first start. When you become comfortable with gameplay, you can start turning some assists off slowly to try out new aspects of the game.

Car Setups

You’ll want to do some research and experiment with all the customization options you have for your cars. You’ll be able to suit how you like to play and have better races.

Paddles

Keep your head in the game and feel like you’re really in a F1 race with paddles. Paddles will feel more immersive and give you a more comfortable position to shift gears during long periods of gameplay.

We recommend placing the MFD menu and Activate / Deactivate DRS on the inner two paddles. You’ll be moving your hands less, so you can focus on getting better racing times.

Sometimes finding a better way to play is what feels best for you, so feel free to try different mappings to suit your style.

Expert Layout

Learn More About SCUF PRESTIGE

If you want to play like a Pro and want more control over your gameplay like you would have with a Steering Wheel, we have a layout made just for you.

First, you’ll need to adjust some default settings.

Start by going into Game Options > Settings > Controls > DUALSHOCK4 Wireless Controller Preset 1 > Edit > MFD Shortcuts

  • Set Fuel Mix increase to D-Pad Up

  • Set Fuel Mix decrease to D-Pad Down

  • ERS Mode Increase to D-Pad Left

  • ERS Mode Decrease to D-Pad Right

Next, be sure under the Assists menu that ERS mode is set to Manual. Now you can map the rear paddles to match the D-Pad controls above.

This will allow you to adjust your Fuel Mix and ERS Mode as you’d like, without having to take your left thumb off the stick when driving.

Thumbsticks

Being able to steer quickly and accurately is incredibly important to stay at the top of the race. Short concave thumbsticks are designed to give you more grip and control over your movement and increase your reaction time.

Having both thumbsticks in the short concave style will allow you to make quick turns without losing control, and you’ll be able to quickly check your mirrors.

SCUF Thumbsticks are interchangeable to suit your preferred playstyle, so we recommend trying out taller thumbsticks if you have larger hands for increased comfort while playing.

Grip

Races take up hours to play, and you need a good comfortable grip to play for long periods of time.

Each SCUF controller has the option for high performance grip: a textured non-slip surface. This is perfect for extended gaming sessions to improve comfort and performance, especially over time when your hands begin to sweat.
