Getting Started in Watch Dogs Legion

Getting Started in Watch Dogs Legion

Get ready to recruit anyone you want (including tons of Grandmas if you’d like), Watch Dogs: Legion is finally here on PS4, Xbox One, and PC (soon to be on PS5 and Xbox Series X). Set in post-Brexit London, you’re a part of a hacker group called DedSec trying to revolt against the new dystopian security company, Albion. You can be anyone you want - and whoever you choose will change parts of the story and dialogue as you go along. Learn some tips and tricks to get you started.

Beginners Tips in Watch Dogs Legion

  • Scan Everyone. When you scan someone, it’ll give you information on their background to see if they’re a good fit for your team - as well as how difficult it will be to recruit them. Each person will have their own  recruitment mission to obtain them.

  • Pick Your Playstyle. Watch Dogs: Legion allows you to play however you like - you can go in guns ablazing, or you can choose to stealth your way through. It’s a good idea to build your team and equipment around how you want to play. You can also choose to do a non-lethal playthrough as well.

  • Choose Your Tech Before Starting a Mission. Once you’re in an area for a mission, you won’t be able to change which equipment you are using - so be sure to swap before starting.

  • Characters Can Die, Permanently. Be mindful if you have permadeath on when you choose to fight - sometimes, your character will be arrested, or sent to the hospital; however, they can permanently die and be lost forever.

  • Pick Support Characters. Even if you want to play maybe 5 characters, it’s good to have additional characters to provide support from base. For instance, if you have a character who is a lawyer, they could potentially bail you out sooner if you get arrested.

  • Enemies Will Match Your Attack Type. If you’re stealthing into a building and get caught, don’t necessarily reach for a weapon. The enemy should just tell you to leave and start a melee fight. Keep in mind that if you do use non-lethal weapons, enemies can still use lethal weapons.

Combat

Combat can be lethal or not, and it’s up to you which way you choose. There are weapons that will stun and knock unconscious vs actually taking out an enemy. Keep in mind also, the kind of person you choose to play as will affect how combat works - an older person will probably not be able to do as much damage punching someone than a younger fit person. During combat, you can use the environment to your advantage to duck behind cover to avoid a hit or strategically plan an attack and exit.

Stealth

This game gives you a lot of options to play stealth as well. You can climb up to alternative entrances, bust out your spiderbot to get through small spaces, sneak up on people to knock them out, and duck behind objects. Watch out for detection devices in addition to people, as they can set off alarms and ruin your stealthy mission. You can hack into cameras to plan out your route of getting in, and out without alerting anyone.

Thumbsticks

You can improve your movement control with the proper thumbsticks. Each SCUF has interchangeable thumbsticks to suit your playstyle. There are two parts to the thumbstick: its shape and its length.

  • Concave Thumbsticks are designed for more movement control.

  • Domed Thumbsticks are designed for more accuracy.

  • Short Thumbsticks are designed for quicker movement speed

  • Tall Thumbsticks are designed to have more angle to play with.

Short concave thumbstick on the left will give you a better grip to dig into while running, so you can turn sharply.

A domed thumbstick on the right will give you more accuracy when aiming, but a concave stick is great if you want more control over looking around when stealthing. The short stick will help you turn more quickly to see.

That being said, if you have larger hands you may want to try the taller thumbsticks for improved comfort while playing.
