The highly anticipated Elden Ring DLC - Shadow of the Erdtree - recently launched has captivated people worldwide. This one-of-a-kind expansion promises to take the players into a different arena with new weapons and newer features. Even though the trailer tells you just to defeat Radahn and Mohg to gain access to this expansion, there are numerous insights and preparations you can do to explore this DLC.

Whether a newbie or a game master, you must be prepared to make the most of this new chapter. The strategies and key preparatory steps are essential to experiencing the game entirely. Here’s a guidebook to help you prepare for and win the Elden Ring’s treasures.

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Spell

First, you must decide whether to enter the expansion as a fresh character or a pro who has already perfected all the levels and begun the New Game+. Both the options have advantages and disadvantages, so you must choose wisely!

Fresh Character

If you like challenging yourself, opting for a fresh character in the gameplay would be wise. It brings a fun and new playing style to the trough. This way, you can focus on acquiring the essentials and stocking up on a limited quantity of items in bulk.

New Game+ Character

If you want a highly equipped player, choose the New Game+ character. It will likely have everything you need and can quickly move around the map. Beware! You must remember that with each passing level at New Game+, the enemy level difficulty rises, affecting your DLC enemies.

It is essential for the players who still need to start their New Game+ experience to know what level they should reach to access Shadow of the Erdtree. The trailer mentions that for characters to dive into the DLC, they must defeat two particular bosses. Now, that can only be possible when your character is strong enough to fight these foes near the end of the game.

The developers advise the players to reach a minimum of level 100 to 150 to be properly prepared for the challenges. Influencers with early access to the first area of the DLC have revealed that the characters provided for the content were level 150, so that will likely be the best level for an appropriate amount of challenge.

The developers mentioned defeating two primary bosses to unlock the DLC. As a fresh character, you are welcome to tackle more bosses, but Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, should be destroyed as one of the significant requirements of the DLC.

Starscourge Radahn is a massive demigod with extraordinary strength. He is found in the Wailing Dunes of Caelid, where players must defeat him at the Redmane Castle Festival. Suppose you have decided to play as a New Game+ character. In that case, we strongly advise completing Blaidd’s Questline (beginning in East Limgrave and leading into Ranni’s Questline in Liurnia) to call upon Radahn. Reaching Altus Plateau will also unlock a teleporter at the foot of Redmane Castle, simplifying the path to Radahn.

The Lord of Blood is a powerful and intimidating boss renowned for his deadly strikes and blood magic. Mohg resides in Mohgwyn Palace, a discreet underground area that is incredibly difficult to ascend. Now, two methods exist to reach this hidden place, which solely depends on your character level.

You need to follow the White-Faced Varré’s quest for the first method. After invading other players three times, the character receives a medallion, which takes them to the Mohgwyn Palace. For the second method, you must reach the Consecrated Snowfield region and find the teleporter along the western border. That secret teleporter will take the player to the Mohgwyn Palace, where you can defeat Mohg.

Regardless of the method you use, keep in mind that Mohg is a formidable boss. You must equip powerful gear and weaponry to ensure your character’s safety and strong attacking power. Also, we recommend completing different questlines and defeating other bosses to make your character super strong. These include Milicent's Questline, and defeating Malenia, Blade of Miquella.

Shadow of the Erdtree Corrupted Tree

Golden Seeds and Sacred Tears

Golden Seeds are rare items at the base of small glowing trees that help upgrade your Flask charges and maximise characters’ potential in the DLC. You can also obtain them by defeating powerful Tree Spirits, which makes them both a challenge and a bounty. Sacred Tears are valuable items found around the churches in the Lands Between, just like Golden Seeds. They enhance your Flask charges and magical abilities that can be used in the DLC.

They are enigmatic items of power that bestow the players with special bonuses and capabilities. They are essential in ensuring you are ready to encounter any task or battle by maintaining your health and restoring Flash charges upon getting hit.

Spirit Ashes

When talking about survival, Spirit Ashes are a must in your checklist. They help summon spirits to aid in fights and enhance your potential. There are numerous Spirit Ashes, so we recommend picking one that matches your vibe and gameplay insights.

A good collection of consumables is essential before you enter the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. They provide your character strength and an advantage in certain circumstances. We expect a new variety of consumables in the DLC, but before embarking on that journey, it is better to be well-equipped.
