The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Game Guide

CD Projekt’s open world role playing game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, just hit its highest player count on Steam since its release back in 2015 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. This sudden burst of popularity is largely because of Netflix’s The Witcher series, released on December 20th, starring Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia.

Whether you’re a player who is coming back to the game, or a new player who wants more Witcher while waiting for season 2, SCUF will change how you play The Witcher 3 with these controller settings and gameplay tips.

How To Improve Your Gameplay Using a SCUF

Paddles

Do you find it frustrating to reach for the D-Pad during battle to switch weapons or eat food to heal up? Paddles located on the back of every SCUF controller make these functions easier to access during a fight, so you can stay focused on slaying Drowners and Nekkers.

With the SCUF Vantage 2, you can improve your effectiveness and comfort even more by switching weapons with the SAX buttons. This frees up two of your paddles to make it easier to evade enemies on foot or controller the speed of your horse in a race.

Thumbsticks

Due to the Witcher 3 being in the third person, the right analog stick is used for camera control and the left for movement. If you’re dodge rolling away from an enemy, you want to quickly snap the camera back to your target. To achieve this, we recommend using two Short Concave Thumbsticks in  The Witcher.

That being said, SCUF Thumbsticks are interchangeable to suit your preferred playstyle and comfort. For instance, Tall thumbsticks will be more comfortable for those with larger hands even though short thumbsticks are recommended for snappier movement.

Grip

Whether you’re completing every side quest the game has to offer or you’re immersed in the long, riveting story, the Witcher 3 will have you playing for hours on end. Each SCUF controller has the option for high performance grip: a textured non-slip surface. This is perfect for long gaming sessions to improve comfort and performance, especially in intense moments when your hands begin to sweat.

The Witcher 3 Gameplay Tips

Here are several tips that can vastly improve different parts of gameplay:

  • Meditation is more useful than just passing time; it will replenish your health, but also replenish you potions and bombs, so long as you have the raw ingredients.

  • Keep up with your Bestiary to gain the advantage against any monster you’re facing as it will tell you what Signs (Witcher magic) or weapon oils it is weak to.

  • Stop by Places of Power (marked on the map or if you find a glowing pillar while exploring), to gain a buff to the associated Sign as well as an Ability Point used to level up.

  • Quen is a useful defensive Sign that gives Geralt a magical shield and can save you during battle, so be sure to cast it.

  • Make sure to save often; you can save as much as you want, and if by chance you get stuck or die, it will put you back to the last save point which could mean loss of time and effort.

  • Stock up on repair kits or buy them from merchants to fix any gear that becomes damaged while on the Path.

  • Visit Vivaldi Bank in Novigrad to exchange Orens and Florens for Crowns, the only useful currency.

  • You can use your crossbow to fight enemies underwater since you can’t melee or cast Signs underwater.

  • You can eat and drink during fights, so stock up on food and potions to equip into quick slots for when you’re in a bind.

  • Feel free to loot just about anywhere, even in people’s homes; just don’t get caught by any guards.
