Star Wars Squadrons Game Guide

Star Wars Squadrons Game Guide

Star Wars Squadrons is here for PC, PS4, and Xbox One (soon to be on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S). It has immersive space combat - especially in VR - perfect for any fan of Star Wars. We have some recommendations to improve your gameplay experience in Squadrons.

Key Tips For Star Wars Squadrons

  • Complete the Campaign first. You can always jump into multiplayer, but the campaign will help you get a grasp on flying and combat.

  • Practice the controls. The left and right on the left analog stick will roll your ship instead of moving it left or right - this may take some time to get used to. You can also check out the controller schemes to see if there is one that suits you better, like the Aviator setting.

  • Don’t stop moving. It’s tempting to slow down to line up a shot, but that makes you an enemy’s target. It’s best to keep moving - which may take some practice to get down.

  • Manage your energy. No matter what ship you’re flying, there are different systems that need energy like your weapons and engines. For instance, if you’re needing a quick escape, put all your energy into your engines, or if you’re going to take a lot of damage, put it all into your shields.

  • Double tap Swap Targets to Auto-Lock onto the last enemy. This will immediately lock onto the last enemy who attacked you, making them an easy target to retaliate against.

  • Equip the Repair Droid. While you may want more special weapons, the repair droid will come in handy to keep your ship intact.

  • Avoid Missile Lock-Ons in Multiplayer. If a player starts to lock onto you, it helps to divert power to the engines while you attempt to roll or turn away from the initial lock on. Circling around debris, or flying through an open area can help prevent the line of sight of the missile lock from completing its lock-on. Once you manage to create some space, switching to full powered lasers will help blast away your foes as quick as possible.

SCUF can help you manage your energy and swap targets quickly while flying by using the paddles. One of your paddles can be set to something you use frequently, like all power to engines, or, equalizing your power across the board. It's also handy to have your right paddle on Switch Target, to stay focused on flying while locking on.

Improve Your Movement Control

You can improve your moment control with the proper thumbsticks. Each SCUF has interchangeable thumbsticks to suit your playstyle. There are two parts to the thumbstick: its shape and its length.

  • Concave Thumbsticks are designed for more movement control.

  • Domed Thumbsticks are designed for more accuracy.

  • Short Thumbsticks are designed for quicker movement speed

  • Tall Thumbsticks are designed to have more angle to play with.

Short concave thumbsticks will give you better grip to dig into while playing, so you can turn sharply or roll with more control. The shorter length will increase your speed and efficiency.

That being said, if you have larger hands you may want to try the taller thumbsticks for improved comfort while playing.

Stay Comfortable While Playing Longer

When you’re too immersed in space combat, stay comfortable with high performance grip to reduce sweat and slippage when you’re in those long play sessions.
